General Golf Information for the Ladies

The ladies are golfing at London Downs! Mondays and Wednesdays are designated Ladies’ Days with reduced rates for all women golfers. So come out and enjoy the game.

The London Downs Women’s Golf Association offers morning leagues, either 9 or 18 holes, on Mondays and Wednesdays, and a 9-hole evening league on Mondays. Leagues start at the beginning of April and run till the end of October. All ladies are invited to join and participate in the fun. The organizational meetings are held in March at the London Downs clubhouse. The leagues do have dues to support the season’s activities. Ladies interested in participating in tournaments and/or outings must establish a handicap (ask the pros for details).

In addition to regular play, the leagues also have special events/outings/games throughout the season which include:  Member–Guest, Member–Member, Handicap Match Play, Club Championships, etc.

In addition to league play, association members also have the opportunity to participate in the Invitational Golf Outings at various clubs in Roanoke, Salem, Lexington, Smith Mountain Lake and locally. These are fun days of golf followed by lunch. It's a great opportunity to play at the various courses at good rates, see acquaintances and make new ones.

League members can also participate in the Mountain River Golf Association. Tournaments are held monthly at a different course, at reduced rates. Ladies are flighted by handicap and you play to earn points for your home club. At the end of the year prizes are awarded to clubs as well as individuals.

All ladies of the area are also invited to participate in the Central Virginia Women’s Golf Tournament in August. Golfers are flighted by handicap. There is an entry fee that covers golf for the three days and a nice lunch and awards ceremony on Sunday.

The Women’s Hall of Fame is played in October at one of the area courses. Five ladies and a pro participate to bring home the trophy!

Information about the leagues can be found on the bulletin boards in the women’s restroom.
